The best things I learned in training: Micro actions

Change can be difficult, change can be daunting especially if it seems like a big departure from how you are / how you do things today. Enter micro actions

Micro actions are small, manageable steps towards a behavior change. As James Clear writes in Atomic Habits, you break the change into many small steps - each building into a bigger change over time

Want to build connection with others? (2023 was the year of loneliness - let's change that!)

Examples of micro actions I've collected include
  • Share a meal with someone

  • Be a mentor

  • Meet new people

  • Work on your self awareness

Want to be more mindful?
  • Take three mindful sips of your morning coffee or tea

  • Sit still for two minutes daily. No reading, talking or music / TV, just sit

  • Try a ten minute "awe walk" three times a week

  • Take several deep breaths when you get into bed at the end of the day

If productivity is your thing
  • Use the first hour of our day to clearly set your own agenda and plan for the day

  • Dedicate a set time each day to de-clutter. Organize your files, your accounts, your marketing, your desk, your contacts etc.

  • Disable audio and visual notifications on your computer when doing "focus work"

  • Instead of a to do list, block time in your calendar for tasks so you have time to get those tasks done built into your schedule
