The best things I learned in training Plutchik's Wheel

Plutchik showed there are eight basic emotions

joy

trust

fear

surprise

and

sadness

anticipation

anger

disgust

Emotions arise physically in the body - they are "raw data" to what is going on around us

Feelings are how we think about those emotions

And in the English language alone there are more than 3000 words for feelings

Plutchik's research suggests that emotions listed closer to the outside of the wheel represent mild emotions. Emotions closer to the center represent more intense or stronger emotions. The wheel can help a person identify and work through their understanding of their or other people’s emotions

You can use the wheel to

A. Identify the feeling you are having

B. Take time to reflect on the trigger for that feeling

C. Analyse any connections between your feelings

D. Use that analysis to make changes to minimize or maximize the feeling(s)
