The best things I learned in training: The wisdom of the crowd

One way to look at running a training class is besides you having something to teach every participant, there is also point of view that every participant has something to teach YOU. Here is some of the wisdom I have picked up from my students over the years - some re-quotes and some original

  • Don't let the truth get in the way of a good story

  • In theory there is no difference between theory and practice, in practice there is a big difference

  • Every time you say yes to something, you are saying no to something else

  • Only perfect practice makes perfect

  • Slow is smooth and smooth is fast (AKA go slow to go fast)

  • You fail to plan, you plan to fail

  • Meetings are where minutes are taken, but hours are lost

  • There is no growth in the comfort zone and no comfort in the growth zone

  • Change is inevitable - except from a taxi drive on a rainy day

  • Be yourself everyone else is taken

  • Less is more (more or less)

And the list grows every year, some older phrases drop out as others are added but each one can be used to emphasise a learning point, highlight the application of a skill, break tension

What would you add to the list?
