How to keep the ideas flowing? How to keep the conversation moving?


A conversation killer is "no, but". The phrase is a hard stop reinforced with a reason why not. "But" invalidates everything said before it, " this was a great result, but..." We're ready to hire you but..." or even, " I love you but..." Just look out for "no but" and see what it does to the flow of the conversation


Instead use


Try it when people disagree with you or when they agree with you or when you want to make another point


"Yes and" becomes a connector, an opening to continue the discussion - AND to add another perspective without disagreeing or invalidating the other person's POV
