As a coach I often ask my clients to reflect on their year when we have our final session of the calendar year. Here are some of the questions I often ask (and a few notes too)
What has gone well for you this year?
This helps the client see the results they have achieved and momentum they have built. Beware of the tendency to list one or two accomplishments and then slip into what's not gone well - stay focused on the good!
What are you grateful for?
I've had clients say, "oh the things I'm grateful for seem so basic, like family, friends, health etc" It really doesn't matter how basic you think they are,it's the feeling you have when you say them: Imagine if you had no family, no friends or were in poor health -what would you say to yourself about them being basic then?
Where are the areas of growth for you in the year ahead?
This is a great place for me as a coach to "hold the silence" and let the client speak unhindered for as long as they want. Then when done with their growth areas I ask how they will track their progress or measure success, it's always a great conversation)
How do you reflect on your year? I'd love to hear your prompts!
