I've written many times about the need to pause from the always on hurry up state we are constantly encouraged to be in
And yesterday, writing this post I looked out my window
A squirrel leaping from palm to rubber tree caught my eye as a green parrot alighted on the umbrella plant. The screech of a cockatoo punctuated the low level thrum of crickets and the leaves all waved gently in the tropical morning breeze
A sixty second pause. And I was lifted, refreshed and went back to my writing
In the office this is the view:
And what I have noticed since we moved into the space is that every day I'll see one of my colleagues at the window just starting out to the horizon
Snaking trails of red tail lights of vehicles headed out of town. The tiny dot of pedestrians and the larger outlines of parasols or umbrellas. And masking the distance is haze or humidity
And when I've asked, my colleagues smile - sometimes self consciously, other times not - that they are just "taking a look and taking a quick break"
How often do you stare out of the window? and, when you do, what does it do for you?
